On behalf of DFMG Deutsche Funkturm GmbH, EQOS Energie has newly constructed a 40-metre tall steel lattice mast. As a general contractor, EQOS Energie was responsible for the entire planning stage, took care of all building permit procedures and subsequently managed and coordinated the construction and realisation. In addition, the company is responsible for mast positioning, the installation of the antenna system and the power supply.
The objective of the new construction was to expand the network coverage of mobile telecommunications providers along the new motorway section and to provide more network stability. The connector area of the new steel lattice mast will be cf*A = 43.5 m². As a result, various antenna types of different frequencies can be installed and offered on 4 possible stages or levels. In addition, the new antennas are getting larger and heavier compared to the previous ones, which was taken into account during the planning of the new steel lattice mast.
One particular challenge during the project was the adjustment of the planning and static engineering of the mast including its foundation to the local circumstances. Since the mast is not only located in a water conservation area but also in the immediate vicinity of a well system, special precautions had to be taken to prevent the ingress of contaminants. The entire area of the access road as well as the complete assembly area and footprint were covered in a special film. This way, the construction vehicles were able to access the water conservation area with a reduced impact on nature. In addition, in order to prevent penetration of the existing well system, a special foundation had to be planned beforehand. The normal anchoring depth was reduced from 2.10 metres to 1.50 metres. To achieve the necessary stability nonetheless, the foundation was conceptualized broader and realised with stronger reinforcement. Finally, the mast was positioned and the outer facility was constructed.
