Information
EQOS Kommunikation was commissioned by Deutsche Telekom to implement the expansion of 5G infrastructure at the EUROGATE container terminals in Bremerhaven, Hamburg, and Wilhelmshaven. These three terminals were equipped with their own 5G campus network by Deutsche Telekom. In contrast to the public 5G network, the frequencies are provided by the Federal Network Agency upon request. This means that critical data traffic can be transmitted separately from the public network and thus even more securely – as well as with exclusive bandwidth.
The network operates in the local 5G industrial spectrum between 3.7 and 3.8 GHz and not only ensures seamless and fast communication but also creates the basis for greater automation and digitisation of the processes at the container terminals.
The expanded network enables closer networking of handling equipment with the control and process control systems. This increases the security of digital logistics applications and allows more flexible operations.
As part of the project, a total of eight antenna systems were integrated into the existing infrastructure such as existing light poles. One particular challenge was the fact that the work had to be carried out during ongoing operations under strict safety regulations.
